Huan Zhu Ge Ge II Episode 39 Eng sub

A few call backs to the first series here!

  1. Performing on the streets for money – literally episode 1 of series 1. Right down to some of the old clothing!
  2. Ginkgo Hill, and the hut there. Mentioned many times here.
  3. Cai Lian, a girl they rescued on the excursion from series 1 they mention very often.
  4. “With Qianlong in reign, worms don’t bother the grain” – a XYZ version of a real phrase she learned from Zi Wei, which is escaping me at the moment.
  5. And in case you forgot, Xiao Gui Zi and Xiao Shun Zi are Fifth Prince’s servants who live in Jinyang Palace with him.

A couple of translator’s notes:

  1. In here they call back to episode 31 when XYZ steals the persimmons, where Yong Qi first comments on “underhanded tactics.” What he’s actually deriding is “Jianghu practices,” where as I’ve mentioned briefly before, is kind of like the Wild West of ancient China. It paints a certain picture beyond just “underhanded” because it reinforces his insult toward Xiao Yan Zi, implying that she is of a certain kind of dishonest “Jianghu” upbringing.
  2. Similarly, I had to shorten Yong Qi’s words to “conning and robbery.” What he said in actuality is “stealing, robbing, swindling, and scamming” – implying that XYZ does all these awful things. It makes her sound much more amoral than my softened blow. I chose robbery because it sounds the most severe, but FYI.

Nothing major, just felt bad to shorten these particular instances without this little footnote. It really reads like their outrage to Yong Qi is a little more unwarranted the way I have it. But they really do talk so so fast in these more informal segments. 😦

Huan Zhu Ge Ge II Episode 38 Eng sub – Princess Return Pearl II

Sorry for the hiatus! I was just sitting on translated episodes but couldn’t really devote time to correcting some of the many audio problems in this episode, so I was at a bit of a roadblock. But I’m making good progress and should be releasing the rest of the episodes regularly.

When we left off last episode, XYZ was guessing how the word “to glide” should be written in Chinese, but she guessed the character for “law” instead. Please go read that description in the last episode. Some of the puns only work in Chinese, I don’t think it would have worked to translate them, but hopefully you get the gist.

Zi Wei and Er Kang reminisce about some events from series 1. Er Kang was jealous and threatened on an excursion they took with the Emperor. Back then, Zi Wei’s identity as the Emperor’s daughter was not made known, but the Emperor felt a strong bond with Zi Wei that he attributed to attraction (ew gross I know), and Er Kang couldn’t openly compete with the Emperor’s affections. It drove him crazy. Zi Wei was close to becoming the Emperor’s consort lol…

Not much else to report. Enjoy the episode!

Episode 38 – Get it here!

Edit: found a couple of mistakes in the subs since I was sans proofreader for a while. Realized this was not the way to go, so the rest of the episodes will be proofread again. Sorry abou that! Next episode will be out today, 7/20/20.
